Redditvision Song Contest 3 was the third edition of the Redditvision Song Contest. It was hosted in Milan, Italy following delegate u/Wierdmeansawesome's win in Berlin with Lorenzo Fragola's "Luce che entra".
Twenty-four countries participated in the contest. It only consisted of one final, as there were not enough delegates to have semi-finals. While in the first two editions users submitted their entry along with their country, for this edition it was split into two separate phases. This edition also saw the introduction of the sister subreddit r/Redditvision_NF, which is used for hosting national finals. Four delegates opted to run a national final.
This was the first edition where claiming countries became a separate phase from song submissions; during the first two editions songs were submitted alongside countries. Country claiming has been its own phase ever since.
The live show began on 20 February 2017. On 23 February 2017, the winner of the contest was revealed to be u/Phoenix963 and France with the song "Dernière danse", written and performed by Indila.
Participants
Only twenty-four users participated, a decrease of ten from the previous edition. In addition to the seven disqualifiers; u/dudeoh, u/Pourquoijv, u/RealPhali, u/whyidontwanna also withdrew. u/feimir was the only delegate to debut this edition.
Cyprus, England, Monaco and Slovakia were the only countries to make their first appearance. Canada and Germany returned to the competition.
Two song restrictions were in effect: all entries had to be less than 4:30 minutes long, and had to be released from 2013 and onwards. This is the first edition where an artist returned to the contest, competing for a second time. Both Sia (Greece) and GJan (Lithuania) participated in edition 2, representing the same countries.
National finals
This was the first edition where delegates had the opportunity to host a national final to select their Redditvision entry. The idea was first created by u/Phoenix963, who also hosted the very first national final. In total, four countries hosted a national final: England, Italy, and eventual winner and runner-up; France and Finland.
